Eating Out

Canggu has beyond a wide variety of different cuisines and eateries on offer with new ones seemingly sprouting up all the time.

The Bali dining scene seems to becoming increasingly health conscious, this is particularly visible in Canggu with it's high expat population.

In the heart of Batu Bolong, which is Canggu's main beach area, you're blessed with quality eateries in every direction.

For breakfast eats, try Ithaka which is directly across the road from the Canggu Beach Apartments about 300m from the beach. Specialising in delicious smoothie bowls, coconut pancakes and traditional Indonesian breakfasts, this cafe is perfect for a light and cheap breakfast.

For healthy eats, Betelnut Cafe is the place for you. With delicious fresh salad bowls, mexican wraps and even raw cakes - Betelnut is a nice light change from the generally rice heavy local food. The ambience is also a delight with a quaint upstairs sitting area overlooking the main nightlife of Canggu.

For authentic Indonesian eats you can't go past Vanna, a local favourite and specialists in local food. Vanna lets you choose from a selection of pre-cooked Indonesian delights which are added to your plate and ready to eat right away at a very local price!

They also make delicious fresh smoothies and juices, be sure to try the Gado-Gado and get a banana smoothie with you're meal - you won't be disappointed.

For delicious Mexican eats, Lacailta is the go-to. Conveniently situated right out front the Canggu Beach Apartments, this funky little night spot is decked out in bright decor and giant flower chandeliers. If it's margaritas and tacos you're chasing, this is the spot for you.

For everything else you can't go past Old Man's. Situated right on the beach this is surfy vibe beach bar does everything from salt and pepper calamari entrees to western style burgers, fresh seafood and Indo eats. Laze out front on a bean bag or couch and be sure to head there for happy hour each from from 5pm until 6pm where you'll get two-for-one drink specials. The sunday sessions go off here so be sure to get down early for a table!

Bars & watering holes

Whilst Canggu maintains a busy nightlife, it's classier and far less hectic than the likes of Kuta.

Think beach bars with infinity pools overlooking the ocean, quality live music and cocktails made with ACTUAL spirits (not arak!).

For the younger, hipster crowd there's Deus Temple of Enthusiasm which is the flagship venue in the Deus Ex Machina brand. It's an absolute staple in the Canggu nightlife scene and should be experienced at some point.

Tuesdays are 'Taco & Free Tatt' night, where you can quite literally get a free tattoo if you're there early enough to enjoy with your taco. Weekends see some quality local and overseas live music taking to the back courtyard which is decked out with chill couches and fairy lights. Beers are fairly cheap and the food is delicious.

For relaxation and ocean views try The Lawn Canggu which is situated on the absolute beach front of Batu Bolong. With an ocean facing infinity pool and plenty of day beds and umbrellas, this is the place to come and lounge for the afternoon whilst sipping a cocktail.

For quality happy hour again, you just can't go past Old Man's right on the beach. From 5pm until 6pm daily you'll get two-for-one's on all drinks including cocktails, Bintang's and delicious locally crafted ciders.
